Gear up for post-season races

Both Flier varsity teams won the PIpestone Area Cross Country meet and then ran at Lennox on October 2.
The season begins to wind down as the Lake Central Conference meet was held Monday at DeSmet and the Big East Conference meet is set for Thursday at Volga. Then the Fliers will run in the Region 2A meet on October 15 before the State meet October 25 in Huron.
PIPESTONE Senior Faith Wiese came in first and her younger sister Calla was second at the Pipestone Area Cross Country meet on September 29. Both Flier varsity teams won the meet.
The girls team won the event with 26 points with host PIpestone Area coming in a distant second at 50.
Faiths winning time was 18:01.39 and Callas was 20:23.98. Tenley LeBrun finished fourth at 22:39.86 and taking ninth was Kiley Westberry with a time of 23:02.35.
For the boys team, Nate Hobbie finished second in a time of 18:54.67 and Logan Kontz wasnt far behind taking third at 18:58.94. Fifth place was won by Sam Schmidt at 19:55.38 and Wyatt Kontz came in sixth at 20:26.29.
The Flier boys added up 21 points with Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 60 points.
The JV teams had good performances as well with the boys earning the win with a score of 25. Tayte Joachims was second in the 2500 meter race in a time of 10:23.60 and Creighton Arnett was sixth at 11:07.50. Munro McNickle placed 12th at 11:52.60 and Louis Gauthier was 13th, 11:52.90.
The JV girls scored 41 points getting edged by Pipestone Area but Flier seventh grader Willow Stephens took the medalist honors clocking a time of 11:38.60. Isabel Kulm was eighth at 13:06.20 and Rona Streitz was 13th at 13:45.30. Molly Kelm was 15th in a time of 14:25.50. The girls also ran a 2500 meter race.
LENNOX The Flier girls took seventh at the meet. Faith Wiese was the first Flier in the chute with a second place finish of 17:36.39. Coming in 17th was Calla Wiese, 19:44.26. There were 89 runners in the race.
Sioux Falls Christians Ellie Maddox took the medalist honors with a time of 17:05.02 and her team took the title with a low 16 points. Flandreau scored 109.
The Flier boys were eighth in the 15 team race scoring 149 points. Sioux Falls Christian won the meet with 23 points, but Gage Beverly of Vermillion was the medalist in a time of 15:57.95. Top Flier runner was Logan Kontz taking 30th with his time of 18:01.29 and Nate Hobbie was 34th (18:14.64) in the field of 95 runners over the 5000 meter course.
Willow Stephens, in the JV race, took 16th (18:05.71) for the girls and Creighton Arnett was 43rd (17:03.36) for the boys.
