Hot Rod and Farm Show draws crowd

The town of Ward came alive a couple of weekends ago as residents and visitors turned out for the annual Hot Rod and Farm Show.

This nearly century old Ford was one of those at the Ward Annual Car Show and is looking pretty fine for being 100 years old. Close to 30 cars, farm enthusiasts, and a mix of vendors set up shop. Families spent the day strolling the grounds, checking out classic cars and antique tractors, grabbing plates of food, and catching up with friends and neighbors.
What started just a few years ago as a small idea from 29-year-old Austin Boll, a Minnesota transplant who wanted to bring new energy to the tiny township of 33 residents, has grown into one of the areas favorite late-summer traditions. Boll, who moved to Ward to be closer to his father, Doug, began by cleaning up the city park and restoring the old ballfield.
The thought was simple: give neighbors a reason to gather and bring others to the small town in the far northeast corner of the county.
Now in its third year, the Ward show has become more than just a car show its part reunion, part block party, and part showcase of small-town history and pride.
