Girls win MC/M Invite

SALEM The high school cross country season is off and running as both county teams participated at the McCook Central/Montrose Invite Tuesday in Salem.
The Flier girls won their varsity division although team scores were not available at press time.
Faith Wiese, last seasons state Class A girls medalist, won the honor at the McCook Country Club by nearly two minutes over her nearest competitor. Her winning time was 18:21.04.
Calla Wiese took fourth running the 5000 meter course in 21;47.41 and Kiley Westberry was sixth with her time of 22:09.77. Rounding out in the top 20 for Flandreau was Tenley LeBrun coming in 18th with a time of 23:49.32.
Colman-Egans Izzie Lee ran at 24:34.47 good enough for 25th place. There were 49 varsity girls running the race.
The Flier boys top runner was junior Nathaniel Hobbie coming in 10th at 19:14.77 and Logan Kontz, 11th, turning in a time of 19:16.40. Sam Schmidt placed 22nd at 19:59.31. A total of 63 runners were in the race.
For the JV runners, CE Hawk Landrie Hahn was 12th at 20:47.93. The Fliers first JV runner in the chute was Isabel Kulm at 21:26.91 for 22nd. Rona Streitz was 27th, Hailey Lahr was 28th and Dreamer Cournoyer was 34th. There were 70 JV girls runners.
On the boys side, Tayte Joachims took 28th from a field of 98 runners.
Next the runners are on the course at Garretson on Tuesday, September 9.
