Fliers stop Baltic 20-12

BALTIC -Flandreau picked up its first gridiron win last Friday with a 20-12 defeated over Baltic to even their record at 1-1.
Both teams started out slowly trading punts in the first half of the first period.
On third and goal at the 10 yard line, Tucker Hemmer snagged Xavier Biens pass capping off an 11 play 60 yard drive over 4:20. Bien kicked a successful point after to put the score at 7-0.
Baltic got on the board in their next drive in the second period and used a Flier penalty to put them in good field position. They scored on a 4 yard pass playy, but the the PAT run was thwarted by the Flier defense and thats how the first half would end.
Each team had only one possession in the third quarter and failed to score.
Flandreau struck just inside the fourth quarter.
After keeping the ball for 7:13 of the third quarter and running 13 plays, the Fliers struck at the 11:24 mark of the fourth as an untouched Alex Poitra crossed the goal line. Biens PAT kick was through the goal posts setting the score at 14-6.
The Fliers would strike again midway through the final quarter using 7 playes over 3:10. A 2 yard quarterback keeper by Bien added six more points as the Bulldogs blocked the PAT kick.
After the ensuing kickoff, Baltic answered using only a minute off the clock on a 70 yard pass play. Again their PAT attempt was no good and the score was 20-12.
Both teams played out the rest of the game scoreless.
From under center, Bien finished 6 of 18 for 108 passing yards including a touchdown.
Receiving those were Justin Klein, two for 49 yards, Kody Kneebone two for 24 yards and Hemmer, two for 25 yards including the touchdown.
On the ground, Klein had 12 carries for 54 yards, Bien had 17 carries for 27 yards and a score and Poitra had seven carries totaling 48 yards and the touchdown.
Defensively, the Fliers were led by Klein with 15 tackles and two sacks, Kneebone with seven and Hemmer with six tackles.
This week the Fliers are at Parker in a 7 p.m. contest with the Pheasants.
