Its going to look different, said local attorney, business owner, wife, mother of four and lifelong South Dakotan Carrie Sanderson, as she announced her run for the state legislature earlier this week.
Sanderson is seeking a seat in the state House of Representatives for District 25.
Shes no stranger to public service. Sanderson has worked as a federal prosecutor, civil litigator and public health leader. Today, she owns Good Stewards Consulting, helping nonprofits and organizations across the state tackle challenges ranging from food security and childcare to workforce development and access to justice.
Her campaign, she says, will focus on supporting safe communities, strengthening the workforce in rural and tribal areas, and making sure families in rural South Dakota have the resources they need to succeed.
My lifes work has been about strengthening communities, Sanderson said. Strong families build strong communities, and Ive seen firsthand how local leadership can make a real difference in peoples daily liveswith the necessary cuts coming from our federal government, now more than ever its important that somebody understands budgets, understands how we are going to shift our support into our local communities and how our organizations are going to be able to survive and thrive when the funding mechanisms from our state looks different.
Sanderson describes herself as a fiscal conservative whos willing to be creative in finding solutions.
I have worked with state government, counties, and local communities my entire career and I understand their struggles. I also understand how they can collaborate in ways that we havent even touched on yet and so I am the right candidate to show my coworkers in the legislature and community how we can be better for our neighbors and families.
Sanderson and her husband, Jared, live in Flandreau with their four daughters. More on her campaign can be found at www.sandersonforsd.com
