Blue Teal, Cardinals advance in District 4B play

MADISON Both Flandreau teams survived the opening weekend of the District 4B amateur baseball tourney being held at Flynn Field in Madison. District 4B action began last Friday evening.
The Flandreau Blue Teal took an opening win over the Colman As before dropping the next one to the Canova Gang.
The Flandreau Cardinals lost to the Dell Rapids Mudcats on Saturday and then regrouped and won over Colman late Sunday afternoon.
Taking their second loss, the Colman As were knocked out of further competition.
The two Flandreau teams continue on in district play with the Teal set to face Humboldt/Hartfords Gamecocks, 6 pm on Thursday evening while the Cardinals will follow that game and take on the Humboldt/Hartford Woodducks.

Blue Teal Vs. Colman
The Blue Teal opened the game scoring four runs in the bottom of the first to make the difference in the 8-5 win.
Mason Riley took a pitch over the fence earning three RBI. Tanner Christenson batted 3-for-5 all one-base hits. Kolby Peters swatted out a triple and got two RBI in the effort.
Tash Lunday almost went the distance on the mound throwing eight and a third inning. He struck out 11, gave out five hits and five runs (4 earned) and walked six. Tristan peters closed the game for the final two outs striking out both batters he faced.
Colman was led by DeWitts two RBI off a double and a single. Roach had a pair of singles.
The As Paul Clark took the pitching loss giving up eight runs off 10 hits while striking out eight Blue Teal batters.

Cardinals Vs. Dells Mudcats
A tough 14-9 opening round for the Flandreau Cardinals transpired on Saturday afternoon. The locals led 6-4 heading into the sixth inning where Dells put four on the scoreboard to take the lead and then added six more in the next three innings.
The Cardinals used five pitchers in their effort. Bret Severtson opened the game going five and a third innings. He gave up 12 runs off the 14 Mudcat hits and struck out five. Curt Anderson finished the sixth inning with no marks in the scorebook.
Noel Burgos came in for the seventh, Kasen Grengs for the eighth and Tison Burggraff closed out the ninth.
At the plate, the Mudcats garnered 17 team hits.
For the Cardinals, Luke Gassman and Jacob Patterson both went 2-for-4, and Patterson had a home run collecting three RBI. Tim Huber also had an over the fence hit while Austin Koenig doubled.

Blue Teal Vs. Canova
Flandreau scored the opening run Saturday evening, but thats all they could get against the Gang falling 12-1.
Flandreaus score came in the first on when Kolby Peters crossed the plate on a Gang error.
The Teal could only get two base hits in the second-round game against #2 seed Canova coming from Kolby Peters and Mason Riley.
Emmott Nathan suffered the mound loss in five innings of work. He allowed five runs off six hits and fanned three Canova batters. His reliever was Tristan Peters who threw an inning and two-thirds. He gave up five hits, seven runs and struck out a lone batter.

Cardinals Vs. Colman
Sunday, in high heat and warm winds, the Cardinals defeated Colman, 12-5.
Four Cardinals had three hits on the night.
Jacob Patterson led the way just shy of hitting for the cycle with a home run, triple and a single. He scored three runs and had three RBI.
Keith Cutler, JaColby Anderson and Noel Burgos also had three hits.
Brian McGuire and Burgo each had a double and Tim Huber blasted out a home run and finished with two RBI.
For Colman, Paul Clark doubled and added a base hit and Burke and Roach both had a pair of singles.
Winning pitcher was the starter Drew Weber (5 hits, 5 runs and 2 strikeouts and taking the loss was Colmans Roach (9 hits, 7 runs and 2 strikeouts.
