The community of Flandreau is reeling as the search for Jamie White, who went missing early on July 5th near the Flandreau Dam, came to a heartbreaking end.
Authorities confirmed that a body was discovered and removed from the Big Sioux River on July 9 just south of the area around the dam, bringing a tragic conclusion to a search that involved not only multiple agencies, but many family and friends, over the course of the four days she was missing.
The discovery was made in the area where White was believed to have either fallen, been pushed, or jumped into the river during the early morning hours of July 5th. Authorities are working to piece together the details, given what the Moody County Enterprise has been told are conflicting accounts from at least one individual with White at the dam that night.
Rescue crews from Flandreau, Colman, Brookings Search and Rescue, Flandreau Fire Department, and Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue worked tirelessly to find her in dangerous conditions caused by high and swift-moving waters.
In connection with the Flandreau Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Police Department, and Flandreau Fire Department, report that the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released until the investigation is complete.
