The Flandreau 17U baseball team topped Wessington Springs in two games and now advances to the State 17U tourney later in the month. The boys played in a regional contest and needed to win the best of three.
The Flandreau boys won 5-4 and then 13-3.
In the 5-4 win, Tate Hammer eared the mound win pitching 5.2 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking five. Tristan Peters closed out the final inning and a third with three strikeouts and one hit allowed.
On offense, the 17U boys earned 11 hits. Xavier Bien led with three in four at bats. Hammer and Holdyn Rentschler followed up with a pair of hits each. Hammer had a three bagger and Renschtler and Bien each had a two-base hit.
In the next game, the Flandreau team 10-run ruled Wessington Springs, 13-3 in five innings scoring five runs in the final frame.
Mason Wright and Bien led the Flandreau team both batting 3-for-4. Bien had a triple and two singles (4 RBI) while Wright batted out three singles. Trevor Peters and Griffin Hemmer both doubled. The team had 13 hits.
Peters opened on the mound going four innings. He allowed three runs off six hits, struck out six and walked two. Tyton Peters threw the final inning giving up a lone hit and striking out two.
The team will play in the State 17U tournament in the Bravo division on July 25-28 in Gregory.
