Trent works to solve water, power infrastructure needs

Faced with mounting concerns over low water pressure on the west side of town and increasing demands on the local power grid, the Town of Trent is taking steps to address the issues.
At this past months board meeting, community leaders voted to begin construction on a water storage system to help alleviate the towns volume challenges. After months of conversations with engineers, Big Sioux Rural Water representatives, and other clean water professionals, the board approved a plan to build a heated enclosure within the existing town shop to house new water storage tanks.
The project comes in response to ongoing complaints about water pressure, particularly for residents and businesses located on the west end of town. While some have pointed to limited supply from Big Sioux as the root cause, the real issue, Big Sioux officials say, is outdated infrastructure that cant handle the volume already available.
With limited funding for major upgrades, the town is focusing on what it can do in the short term.
In the meantime, discussions continue about potential long-term solutions, including boosting volume and pressure through pipe replacement and other system upgrades.
Separately, new power lines were recently installed along the north side of Highway 32 entering and exiting Trent. The upgrades are designed to support growing electricity demands in the area as the region continues to see development in both residential and agricultural sectors.
Big Sioux Rural Water is also in the process of building a new treatment plant just west of Trent to help serve the increasing water needs across the region. While the project wont directly resolve Trents infrastructure issues, it is expected to ensure long-term supply for surrounding communities.
