Electrical issues halt RRC fireworks show

Royal River Casino fireworks display thats become a favorite part of Flandreaus Fourth of July celebrations was unexpectedly canceled this year, leaving a crowd of eager spectators not exactly surprised by the rain that poured down just moments before the show was set to startbut certainly disappointed.
Across the region, many other fireworks shows were also canceled due to heavy rains and high winds in the forecast. But for Flandreau, it wasnt the weather that led to the cancellation. Organizers explained that the issue was electrical problems at the site, not the rain.
As the storm rolled in, bleachers located just south of the Royal River Casino and Hotel were packed with visitors, who quickly scrambled for their cars as the skies opened up. The entire casino parking lot and nearby roads were lined with families and friends gathered for the annual celebration.
While the cancellation was a letdown, the tribe is planning to reschedule the show, possibly for the weekend of the Wacipi, the annual powwow celebration held every third weekend in July. Many are hopeful that the rescheduled display will make up for the lost celebration.
