Weekly Downtown Concert Series brings music to main street

The first season of Flandreaus Downtown Summer Concert Series continues this week with a Wednesday evening performance by the Hometown Honeys.
The event is part of a new effort co-hosted by The Merc and the Crystal Theatre, with support from sponsors including Dakota Layers, to bring live music and community programming to the citys downtown core. Organizers say the goal is to offer consistent, free entertainment that brings people together and supports all downtown and other area local businesses.
The concerts, held every other Wednesday night through early September on 2nd Avenue across from The Merc, begin at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, order out from local eateries and all beverages are allowed but any alcoholic beverages need to be carry-out only.
The Hometown Honeys, a regional duo known for their harmonies and mix of country and Americana covers, will headline this weeks performance.
The concert series is part of a full week of events in Flandreau. Old Indian Trick will play at the newly renovated Japanese Gardens as part of the Flandreau Athletic Hall of Fame week of events on Thursday. The live music in town will be followed by a day of Fourth of July celebrations Friday at the Moody County Museum complex where the City Band performs as well. Fireworks will take place that evening near the Royal River Casino and Hotel.
