Summerfest to be held Friday, July 4

It was 50 years ago this past April, that the Vietnam War was brought to a close and now, Vietnam veterans will receive a patriotic tribute at the Moody County Historical Societys annual Summerfest on July 4.
All Moody County Vietnam veterans who plan to attend a ceremony in their honor should contact the museum as soon as possible so there is a seat made available for you. The honoring ceremony begins at 12 noon.
Prior to this the day begins with a church service at 9:30 a.m. prior to the raising of the United States Flag and the singing of the National Anthem by Amy Ellsworth at 10 a.m.
After this, Ellsworth and Thad Drietz will provide music until 12 noon. During this time, visitors are encouraged to listen to the music while wandering around the museum and its grounds viewing the many exhibits on display and the vendors.
The newly refurbished windmill is back in its familiar spot after being damaged in a windstorm in April of 2024. A petting zoo will be set up for the youngsters to enjoy along with other family activities.
Attendees can also stop by the many vendors – serving food or information – who will be set up around the museum complex and choose something from the museums bake sale fundraiser table to enjoy then or later.
The honoring ceremony begins at 12 noon and then to close out the program, the Flandreau City Band will take the spotlight from the Band Shell at 1 p.m.
Local volunteer Bill Ellingson has created a booklet on Vietnam veterans telling their stories from that war. Its available to purchase on July 4 for $10.
