The Flandreau Farmers Market returned to the Moody County Courthouse square Thursday evening with a strong show of support from the community and a variety of vendors lining the east side of the downtown square.
Twenty vendors participated in the first market of the season, offering everything from early fresh produce and baked goods to handmade art and local food favorites. Long lines formed at several food stands while children and families explored large equipment parked nearby as part of the Touch-a-Truck event, hosted in partnership with Moody County 4-H and the Moody County Resource Center.
The event marked a return to the courthouse location after organizers tested a new site last year in hopes of increasing turnout. Early signs suggest the return to the downtown location may pay off.
I was honestly overwhelmed in the best way, said market organizer Jen Callahan.
It was incredible to see so many people back out again, supporting local vendors and just enjoying the evening. I really hope we can keep this momentum going.
While the growing season is still in its early stages, several vendors offered salsa, early vegetables, popcorn, and other prepared foods. Organizers hope to add more produce and attractions as the season progresses.
The next farmers market is scheduled for Thursday, July 17 and will be Family Night at the Market. Theyll be free popsicles and mini photo shoot sessions.
Opening night of Flandreau Farmers Market a success
