Summer happenings in Moody County

With the Memorial Day weekend behind us and school classes dismissed, summer events are in full swing in Moody County!
Heres a quick look at some of the countys favorite annual events and why youll want to put them on your calendar (and maybe bring a few friends along). More details on each as we head toward their respective dates this summer:

Flandreau City Band Concerts

Kicking off: Thursday, June 5

Flandreau City Park Band Shell
7:30 p.m. Thursdays all summer
What it is:
This long-standing community tradition features local musicians performing classic favorites and patriotic tunes each Thursday evening. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy music under the trees.
Why go:
Its simple, sweet, and pure small-town summer at its best. Its also a great excuse to slow down, visit with neighbors, and support local musicians of all ages.

Downtown Flandreau Concert Series

First Show: June 18

Bank Park, next to First National Bank

What it is:
This new concert series will bring live music to downtown every other Wednesday night through early September. Were kicking things off June 18 with Sound of the Stone, followed by The Hometown Honeys on July 2. Six shows are planned this season.
Why go:
Its a relaxed way to connect with neighbors, enjoy great music, and support our small-town downtown. Bring a chair, grab a bite nearby, and settle in for the kind of summer nights we all wish for. Stay tuned for further details.

Flandreau Fridays

June 20, 5 p.m.

Downtown Flandreau
Rain date: June 27
What it is:
A celebration of culture, food, and community featuring back-to-back dance and music performances from local and regional groups. Expect an impressive variety of food vendors, small businesses, and fun for the whole family.
Why go:
The cultural richness on display makes this one of Flandreaus most vibrant nights of the year. Come hungry and open to making a few new friends.

Boys & Girls Club Shed Raffle
Through June 20

Winner drawn at Flandreau Fridays
What it is:
Support youth programs and enter to win a backyard utility shed or $3,000 cash. Tickets are $30 and limited.
Why go:
The funds directly support kids in our community, and whether youre hoping for the shed or the cash, its a win-win. Details at greatfuturessd.org/shedraffle.

Flandreau Farmers Market

Starts: Wednesday, June 26

Bi-weekly through Sept. 20
Location: Moody County Courthouse 5:307:00 p.m.
What it is:
A locally grown and made market featuring fresh produce, handmade goods, baked treats, and more. Runs every other Thursday.
Why go:
Support local growers and makers, stock up on fresh goodies, and enjoy a fun, community-driven market experience.

Egan All-School Reunion & Bridge Days

Kickoff: June 27, 6:30 p.m., BlueJays with Big Red Rawkit Riot
What it is:
A full weekend of parades, food trucks, class reunions, live music, canoe/kayak races, and vendors. The All-School Reunion will be held Sunday at Colman-Egan School starting at 11 a.m. Get your parade entry ready for the parade on Saturday. Moody County Historical Societys Summerfest

July 4, 9:30 a.m.

Moody County Museum Grounds
What it is:
Food, crafts, music, a petting zoo, vintage displays, and a patriotic tribute to veterans with Vietnam-era veterans honored this year.
Why go:
Its a good old-fashioned hometown celebration, done right. Youll leave with a full heart (and a full tummy).

Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe
Fireworks

July 4, Dusk

What it is:
One of the regions biggest and best fireworks displays.
Why go:
The show never disappoints. Settle in with lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks youll catch fireworks from every direction and a true sense of community all around.

Flandreau Athletic Hall of Fame
Activities

July 3: Dusk to Dawn Dance at Japanese Gardens in City Park
July 5: Alumni Golf Open, Rivers Bend
July 6: Banquet, Royal River Casino
What it is:
A celebration of Flandreau and FIS athletic achievements with this years Hall of Fame inductees. The banquet is a cant-miss event; seating is limited.
Why go:
Come honor local legends, reconnect with school spirit, and support a legacy that recognizes not just athletes, but the coaches and communities behind them. Info: [email protected]. Also join the two golf tourneys they are hosting and come to the revived Dusk to Dawn Dance on July 3 at the Japanese Gardens in Flandreau City Park.

Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe Wacipi (Powwow)

Powwow Grounds, north of Flandreau
What it is:
A three-day celebration of culture, tradition, and community with dance competitions, drumming, vendors, and ceremonial events.
Why go:
Its a powerful and beautiful experience open to all an invitation to learn, celebrate, and show respect for generations of rich Dakota culture.

Moody County Fair

July 31Aug. 2

Fairgrounds, Flandreau
What it is:
A classic county fair with livestock shows, 4-H and Open Class exhibits, family fun, food stands, and community pride.
Why go:
See the hard work of locals on display, grab some food, enjoy or get in the parade, get the kids in the toy tractor pull, and relive your best childhood memories.

Colmans Looney Days

Downtown Colman
What it is:
Colmans fun-filled festival weekend with a parade, street dance, games, food vendors, and family events.
Why go:
Its the kind of small-town fun that gives summer its magic. Whether youre from Colman or just stopping by, youre guaranteed a good time.
