Summer planning is in full swing across Moody County, and at the top of the list for many is the return of the County Fair. But behind the scenes, another long-awaited project is taking shape and its one that stands to make a big difference for our local 4-H youth and their animals.
After years of making do with worn-out equipment, Moody County 4-H is moving forward with plans to upgrade its sheep and goat pens.
Its a major step forward, said Whitney Sams, Moody County 4-H Coordinator.
The new pens will enhance the experience for both exhibitors and spectators, showcasing the pride we take in our county 4-H program and livestock projects. This is an opportunity to support our local youth for many years to come.
The nonprofit is inviting community members, local businesses, and organizations to consider sponsoring the effort. Those who do will be recognized with signage around the show ring and throughout the fairgrounds.
Whether youre a business, an organization, or a proud community member, your support will make a lasting impact. Our goal is to have funds raised by June, Sams added.
The new pens will each measure 6-by-6 feet with 4-foot hinged gates, vertical bars to prevent climbing and snags, and the 4-H emblem built into the top corners. A solid panel at the bottom will help contain bedding a small but welcome improvement for anyone whos ever helped clean up after a livestock show.
The goal is to install 40 new pens in the barn. Sponsorships are available at $175 for a half pen and $350 for a full pen.
We used to have to use wire to hold together the old panels, so it is easier/quicker set up, less waste with wire and safer not having wire, said Sams. She also noted the new swing gates will make it much easier for kids to manage on their own a small thing that makes a big difference.
