Emergency response at a crossroads in Flandreau

While public discussion around the future of the Moody County Ambulance has quieted in recent weeks, conversations havent stopped especially behind the scenes.
City and county officials continue to work through whats next for the life-saving service, which, like many rural ambulance programs, has been operating at a loss year after year.
Flandreau City Administrator Cohl Turnquist was tasked with drafting a business model for the ambulance service, should the city take over operations. That offer was put on the table earlier this year by the county, after tensions grew over the citys lack of response to a request for subsidy support.
Turnquist said hes hoping to present that model at a special city council meeting on Tuesday, May 27. The meeting will be livestreamed, as usual, for those unable to attend in person.
A final decision by the city council is expected during its regular meeting on Monday, June 2.
This is a story we know many are keeping a close eye on. The outcome could mean significant changes but likely not the loss of a critical emergency service. Well continue to follow developments closely.
