As the school year shifts into summer, construction crews in Colman are working quickly to finish the final stages of the Colman-Egan school addition.
They started on the bathroom remodel Monday and have been moving really fast with demolition, Superintendent Scott Hemmer said.
Theres no set date for completion as its two projects, but we are hoping to inspect the addition in early June.
The expansion comes at a critical time, as the small town of Colman and the surrounding rural areas continue to experience population growth and a rising number of open enrollments.
Hemmer said the latest numbers show about 20 new open enrollments as of this past weekfive to 10 more than predicted. He added, There is still a lot of time for this number to increase or decrease before the end of September.
As updates to the school building continue, minor changes may also be coming to the playground just west of the school. The Colman-Egan School Board recently approved some equipment upgrades, and additional resurfacing options are under consideration.
An open house for the community to view the addition in its entirety is being planned for early August.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing with two area landowners about a potential new football and track complex. While no decisions have been made, Hemmer said he met with the second landowner, located north of town, this past week.
