Memorial Day is next Monday, May 26 and four Moody County communities will hold services. They are as follows.
Egan and Colman Services
Egan and Colman will hold Memorial Day service on Monday, May 26.
Casey Crabtree, District 8 South Dakota legislator, will give the message and the Colman-Egan band, under the direction of Ronda Palmlund-Olson, will provide the music at both services.
At Egan, the services will be held at the Egan Church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Refreshments will be served following the services.
In Colman, Memorial Day service will be held at the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Colman starting at 10:30 a.m. Due to the construction along Hwy 34 the services will be held at the Catholic Cemetery (north of Colman) instead of the cemetery by T & R Electric.
Memorial Day services are sponsored by the American Legion and Auxiliary of Egan and Colman.
Trent Services
At the Trent Legions Memorial Day Service, the day begins at the bridge with the Naval Service at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., the service will begin at the Trent Event Center (gym). Pastor Randel Maass of the Trent Baptist Church will give the Memorial Address.
Following this, there will be cemetery services. First at 10 a.m. at the Trent Cemetery, then 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Cemetery. Next is an 11 a.m. service at Oslo and Bethania Cemeteries with the conclusion at the Nelson and Riverview Cemeteries beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Flandreau Services
Flandreaus Memorial Day program begins a bit later in the morning starting at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery, although volunteers will be putting the flags up at the cemetery at 7 a.m. and would appreciate any assistance from other. Please consider helping them with this job. Many hands make light work.
In case of inclement weather that morning, services will be held at the Janklow Community Center, same time.
Emcee is Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Post 3351 Commander Bridget Flannery.
Keynote Speaker is Michael L. Schmidt of southern Moody County, who was a Second Class Petty Officer, US Navy, 1967-1970 (served on USS Oriskany CVA 34 in the Tonkin Gulf).
The invocation and benediction will be provided by Rev. Dr. David Jennys, interim pastor at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
Musical selections will be presented by the Flandreau High School Band under the direction of Mr. Pat Weight.
