District 25’s Jon Hansen launches campaign for Governor

District 25 Representative Jon Hansen of Dell Rapids is stepping into a bigger race this time, for South Dakota Governor. Hansen, a republican, announced his candidacy this past Thursday, tapping fellow legislator Karla Lems to run alongside him as Lieutenant Governor.
The message theyre offering voters: protect the values that make South Dakota home.
Along with my running mate Karla Lems, we will give our state government back to we, the people and put you and your family first again, Hansen stated on social media, a day after the event.
He told a crowd at the Alliance in Sioux Falls on Thursday night that the state needs leaders who wont back down leaders who will fight for life, liberty, and families, and not special interests or big government, adding thats why the two are running.
Hansen, who currently serves the district that includes Moody County, says he and Lems are committed to keeping government small, taxes low, and freedoms intact. Their campaign promises to focus on protecting life at all stages, defending constitutional rights, supporting family farms, and keeping education decisions close to home.
Both are known in Pierre for being outspoken advocates on conservative issues, including opposition to the carbon capture pipeline network proposed for the state and specifically, the use of eminent domain for the project. The two promise to bring that same energy to the campaign trail. The team plans to travel the state in the coming months.
