ELKTON Lots of wind met the Flandreau teams at the Vince Relays in Elkton on Saturday, April 12.
No records were set as a brisk southerly wind kept the athletes on the six competing teams at bay.
Sioux Valley won the boys portion with 199.5 points with the Fliers coming in second at 189. DeSmet won the girls team title with 222 points and Flandreau had 150 for second place. A small Flandreau Indian team scored 16 team points for the boys and eight for the girls.
Westberry won the boys 400 meter dash in a time of 51.43 and the boys 4×400 meter relay team of Jake Hamilton, Tate Hammer, Teague Bergjord and Gabe Frias won that event in 3:56.94.
The medley team of Mohr, Brayson Gould, Frias and Logan Kontz won in a time of 4:18.75.
For the girls, senior Emma Keith took first in pole vault with a vault of 6 feet even.
On the track, Kiley Westberry and Morgan Sheppard each took an individual gold medal and two as part of a relay team. Westberry won the 200 (27.99) and Shepard won the 400 (1:02.73).
The 4×200 team of Faith Wiese, Westberry, Ella Hoffman and Sheppard won both the 4×200 relay (1:53.41), their first try of the season in this race, and they also won the 4×400 meter relay in a time of 4:25.34.
For the Flandreau Indians, Amos Rockman took second in the 800 meter run (2:15.73 and in the 1600, 5:11.21. Carlyle HokoKimul threw the shot 256 for fourth place.
