Three pointers ground Fliers

FLANDREAU Six second quarter 3-point baskets from the West Central Trojans was the dominating factor in the Flandreau girls basketball loss last Thursday, 58-48.
The Fliers held a 14-10 after one period. The Trojans came roaring out in the second quarter hitting six straight 3-point shots and 2 point one while holding the Fliers to only two quarter points. The guests lead at the half, 30-16.
In the third, they outscored the Fliers 20-14. A fourth quarter comeback (Flandreau 18 to West Centrals 8) got the Fliers within nine, but they ran out of time and took the loss.
Over the years, we have been very good at home, said Coach Megan Severtson. Unfortunately, we had very poor second quarter – offensively and defensively. Our inconsistency is probably a reflection of a lack of experience. It was a bummer to have a performance like that toward the end of the season, but I’m hopeful that we will turn it around before Regions.
Sadie Iott had the hot Flier hand connecting on 22 points. Morgan Sheppard added 16 points, 10 rebounds.
Hannah Krull made four assists, Iott also had four steals and Addy Hammer had seven rebounds.
The Fliers shot 36 percent from the field making only 2 of 17 three pointers. West Central connected on 10 of 23 from beyond the arc and shot 41 percent as a team.
Rebounding was fairly even with the Fliers having 27 and the Trojans 29.
The Trojans Kasey Jaton scored 14, Ayla Kramer, 12 and Rayne Goehring, 10 points.
The Flier JV team picked up a win to close out their season, 36-32. Calla Wiese scored 13 points and Rona Streitz, nine.
The home loss closed Flandreau varsity girls regular season with a 14-6 record. They were the top seeds in Region 3A so had a bye on Monday evening.
Tuesday, they were to play the winner between #4 Dell Rapids and #5 Garretson.
