FLANDREAU The Flier boys basketball team took two home losses last week against Dell Rapids and Sioux Valley. All three Flier teams lost to their guests.
The Flier boys varsity season record dropped to 9-7.
This week, the boys will host DeSmet as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday and then travel to Baltic on Tuesday, Feb. 18 for another doubleheader.
Dell Rapids 53, Flandreau 38
Dells took a 13-10 first quarter lead and extended it to 25-17 at the half. In the third quarter, neither team had much offense with the Quarriers scoring eight ad the Fliers, seven. Flandreau outscored the visitors 13-11 in the final quarter.
The first half we did not play with much urgency or energy, said Head Coach Brendan Sheppard.
We competed better in the second half, but had dug ourselves too big of a hole. We didnt shoot the ball well and against the Dell Rapids zone with their size we need to shoot well to be successful.
Flandreau only hit 32 percent from the field and were four of 23 from beyond the arc. Not many free throws were awarded but the Fliers made 2 of 3.
The Quarriers won the rebound battle, 32-24.
Alex Poitra and Kody Kneebone led the Fliers each scoring nine points and Xavier Bien made eight. Kneebone also had seven rebounds and Paul Parsley made six and gave out seven assists.
Karson Paye led the Quarriers with 19 points, Jack Kloth and Lincoln Anderson both made 13.
The JVers also lost, 35-31. Tate Hammer scored 11 and Jadon Eng netted 10 points.
C game found the Quarriers winning 25-15. Nathan Ross scored four Flier points and Estephan Nelson, three.
Sioux Valley 55, Flandreau 53
It was an extremely entertaining game that went back and forth the whole night, said Coach Sheppard.
Flandreau won the first quarter 12-5, but Sioux Valley found the hoop and hit 21 points in the second to the Fliers 15, but the Fliers held half time edge, 37-26.
The third quarter was tight with the Fliers netting 17 to Sioux Valleys 18 to bring the final quarter into play tied at 44.
Here the Cossacks got the win scoring 11 to Flandreaus nine.
Alfie Henderson shot the 3 well making six, said Sheppard.
But we didnt make a couple shots down the stretch and Sioux Valley made a few and that was the difference in the game.
Henderson topped the Fliers scoring effort with 20 points and Paul Parsley made 15 points while also dishing out seven assists and creating four steals.
Kody Kneebone brought down eight rebounds.
The Fliers shot the free throws at 69 percent and from the field, they netted 41 percent while the Cossacks hit 48. The rebound battle was won by Sioux Valley 35-30.
Maverick Nelson led all scorers with his 18 Cossack points.
Sioux Valley won the JV but had to use over time to win, 54-27. Tate Hammer scored 19 points and Kenton James aided with 11.
In the C game, Flandreau was dominated by the Cossacks, 52-19. Jake Hamilton and Candon Metcalf both scored four points.
