Over week, three doubleheader games won by Flandreau

The Fliers played in three doubleheader basketball games over the past week with two games on the road and one at home winning all six varsity games.
The girls now have an 11-3 record while the boys mark is 8-4.
This week, the boys were to be at Garretson on Tuesday and West Central on Friday.
The girls will play at Deubrook in White on Thursday and take part of the Roundball Classic in Volga on Saturday.

Boys
Flandreau 63, Deuel 39
CLEAR LAKE The Flier boys sweeped the Cardinals on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The varsity won 61-39. They led after one quarter 23-12 and 34-22 at the half. They broke it open in the third period scoring 22 points to the Cardinals five and then kept the lead after the starters were on the bench for the fourth quarter.
We played a nice defensive game and really locked Deuel down in the third quarter, said Coach Brendan Sheppard.
We created a lot of steals (15) which led to easy transition hoops for us. Offensively, we made shots early which got us into a good flow.
Luke Sheppard had the hot hand scoring 17 first half points and 16 in the second for a season high 33. He also made nine rebounds, eight on defense, and had five steals. Paul Parsley aided in the win with 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots.
The Fliers shot 51 percent while the Cardinals hit 40 percent of their shots from the field. The Fliers kept the turnovers down with only 12 while Deuel made 20.
Gabe Sather scored 17 and Troy Jensen, 13, for the Cardinals.
Flandreau won the JV contest 39-24. Kody Kneebone scored 11, Jadon Eng, nine and Alex Poitra, eight for the Fliers.
In the C game, Jake Hamilton and Tate Hammer scored 14 and 13 points respectively in the 42-30 win.

Girls
Flandreau 50, Deuel 25
The Flier girls opened the week with a 50-25 win over the Deuel Cardinals on Tuesday.
Morgan Sheppard scored 23 points and Hannah Krull had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Flier shot 37 percent from the field and 89 from the line. Deuel hit 22 percent and made 60 percent of their free throw.
Flandreau led at all quarter stops, 94-, 24-9, 39-18.
Camdyn Peterreins led the Cardinals with eight points.
Flandreaus JV members had a resounding win, 41-5 over the Cardinals behind 12 points from Hailey Lahr.

Boys

Flandreau 52 MCM 42
FLANDREAU Both teams had difficulty scoring in the first quarter, but the Fliers held a 7-5 margin. They settled in and led 25-22 at the break and then 38-29 after three quarters. Finals score was 52-42.
We had a poor game shooting from the outside (1 of 16) and the free throw line (15 of 27). Fortunately, our defense has been good and kept us in the game. We were able to make enough plays to maintain a lead throughout the game.
The Fliers shot 42 percent compared to MCMs 36 from the field.
Leading the Fliers were three players in double digit scoring. Micah Otto topped all scorers with 16, followed by Sheppard with 14 and Parsley with 12. Sheppard made 12 rebounds and five assists and Otto also gave away four assists.
Jackson Schmidt put in 14 points and Mason Sabers, 10, for the Fighting Cougars.
The JV team won, 40-29. Alex Poitra scored 12, Jadon Eng, eight and Tucker Hemmer, seven points.
The Fliers also won the C game by a 49-41 score.
Tucker Hemmer and Tate Hammer both scored 12 points and Trevor Peters, 11.

Girls

Flandreau 50 MCM 37
Flandreau won over McCook Central Montrose, 50-37.
We were able to come away with a win despite making things interesting for a few minutes in the fourth quarter when MCM had a big run, said Head Coach Megan Severtson.
Im really proud of how the girls regrouped and ended the game strong.
Flandreau took a 9-6 first quarter lead and then led 20-13 at the half. They poured in 20 third quarter points to take a 40-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
Flandreau shot 37 percent from the field and made 12 of 22 at the line. MCM hit 26 percent of shots taken and made all six free throws awarded.
The Fliers won the rebound battle 36-25 and made 14 team assists and 13 steals.
Topping the Flier scoring was Sadie Iott with 18 points while Morgan Sheppard made 12 with 12 boards. Addy Hammer had five assists and Hannah Krull gave out four and also had seven rebounds.
For MCM, Ashtyn DeKnikker scored 12 points, Mya Morrison, 10 points and Ella DeKnikker, nine points.
The JV team won over the Fighting Cougars, 31-21. Lahr dumped in 11 points, and Aly Schepel and Calla Wiese each added eight.
Flandreaus C Team lost to MCM 23-15. Addie Krull put in six points and Kiley Westberry, five.

Boys

Flandreau 59, Parker 39
PARKER The Flier boys also picked up their third win of the week.
We werent as focused on the defensive end to start the game, said Sheppard.
Even though the Fliers led at the half, 33-24, Sheppard was looking for a bit more defense.
We gave up 24 first half points which is too many.
The Fliers came out of the locker room and only allowed 15 second half points while scoring 26 of their own.
We turned it around in the second half and played a cleaner defensive game. We did a nice job on offense pushing the ball in transition and getting good basket attacks.
Flandreau players shot 49 percent from the field and held the Pheasants to 29. The Fliers struggled at the line hitting only 2 of 10 free throw. Parker hit 6 of 10.
The Fliers used their height to outrebound the hosts, 40-26.
Parsley had the hot hand with 23 points (12-of-15) while making four steals on defense.
Sheppard had a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards giving out six assists.
Alex Poitra added nine points in the win.
The JV team used overtime to win over Parker, 33-31. Jadon Eng scored 12 and Kenton James added 10 points.
In the C game, Hemmer, Jake Hamilton and Peters each scored eight points in the Fliers 39-31 win.

Girls

Flandreau 56, Parker 23
PARKER The Flier girls picked up their third win of the week on Saturday against the Parker Pheasants, 56-23. The varsity girls have won eight games in a row.
Sadie Iott netted 22 points and brought down eight rebounds. Morgan Sheppard had 11 points, five rebounds and four steals while Nora Hamilton scored seven points and made four steals.
Official stats were not ready by presstime.
JV team took a big win over the Pheasants, 53-32. Schepel and Wiese both scored 16 points. Rona Streitz added nine.
