FLANDREAU The Flandreau Flier boys basketball team opened the 2024-25 season at home with a win, defeating Chester 57-22 on Friday night.
Flandreau was never threatened in the game jumping out to score the first six points with ease and limiting the Flyers to a 3-pointer and two free throws in the first quarter to lead 11-5.
They 25-11 at halftime, led 39-17 at the end of the third quarter before winning the fourth quarter by a score of 18-5. The biggest Flandreau lead of the game was the final score.
We played an excellent defensive game, said Coach Brendan Sheppard.
Forcing Chester into tough shots and shot clock violations. Chester did a good job of slowing the game down and limiting our offenses possessions. We played an unselfish offensive game with 16 assists to only 8 turnovers.
In the balanced scoring attack, three Fliers led the team with 10 points each.
Luke Sheppard had a double-double for the Fliers with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Paul Parsley had a strong all-around game with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Micah Otto had 10 points and Kody Kneebone had eight points.
Alfie Henderson made three steals and Sheppard added two blocks.
Flandreau shot a respectable 53.3% from the field and 71.4% from the line. Chester took the same number of shots as the Fliers (45), but only connected on 20% (9-of-45).
Layke Wold had nine points and JD Prorok had six points to lead Chester.
After winning their opener, Flandreau was to travel to Hamlin on Tuesday nigh and Beresford Friday. Both are doubleheader games..
