Joan Ruth Scofield, 84, of Flandreau, SD, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 6, 2024. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Flandreau, SD. The family will be present for visitation on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.
Joan was born at home in the Flandreau Park on February 20, 1940, to Bert and Shirley (Rudd) Bennett. She attended Egan School and graduated in 1958. Joan married Kent Owen Scofield on January 31, 1958, in Pipestone, MN. She attended Stewarts School of Cosmetology in 1960, and graduated February 1961. Joan worked at Charm Beauty Salon for several years while Kent attended college.
Joan worked at many places throughout her life including: 3M, Midtex, Stewarts Hairstyling, and Larsons Manufacturing. She loved attending grandchildrens activities, quilting, traveling, singing, and entertaining. Joan was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the Sunshine Club.
Joan loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren equally, unconditionally, and with all her heart.
Survivors include her four children, Timothy of Brookings, Sherrian of Sioux Falls, Todd (Kerrie) of Flandreau, and Cory (Jen) of Brookings; nine grandchildren: Tiffany (Chance), Adam (Kelly) Kyle (Malea), Jake (Amy), Brandon (Marla) Kaila, Kendra (Chris), Brittany, and Skyler: 13 great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Lucas, Clara, Asher, Mckenna, Lincoln, Grace, Carmen, Brantley, Addeyson, Koda Kae, Alexis, and Bristal; her siblings, Richard (Beverly) Bennett of David
