Discussions around the future of Flandreaus vacant fire hall continue, with local organizations approaching the City Council nearly every month about potential uses.
The most pressing proposal comes from Moody County courthouse staff and county commissioners, who are seeking a new home for the county ambulance service.
The current facility lacks essential amenities like living quarters and a kitchen, creating challenges for recruiting and retaining first responders. The city is also its biggest user when it comes to calls for service, and any funding the city might offer for support falls short of where county officials say it needs to be to continue operating the way it has.
But a new player has now entered the discussions as of last week.
In next weeks edition, well detail the local nonprofit joining forces with the county, requesting the city gift them the building. Learn more about the proposed partnership, the financial hurdles facing the city and why it hasnt moved on the request to date, along with the countys ultimatum if some sort of stronger partnership between all local entities cant be reached.
