A steady stream of county residents have been filing into the Moody County Courthouse and requesting ballots ahead of Election Day a trend being seen across the state and nation.
The latest numbers available from Moody County show 596 ballots have been cast as of Monday morning
Statewide, the South Dakota Secretary of States website shows 97,333 ballots have been cast so far in the 2024 general election, about twice as many seen at this time in the 2022 election.
County and state officials are hoping voters educate themselves on the initiatives and referendums on this years ballot along with the candidates in an effort to avoid long wait times on election day, as there is a lot on this years ballot.
Along with the presidential race, youll see the U.S. House of Representatives race, a Public Utilities Commission race, South Dakota Legislature races and seven ballot measures, plus local races and issues.
Information along with a sample ballot can be found on the South Dakota voter information portal. You are also able to print, fill out and bring a sample ballot into the voting booth.
A reminder of what is now allowed, however, South Dakotans cannot wear or bring items to a polling location that can be interpreted as campaign material for candidates or issues, which would include any hat, button, or t-shirt with a candidates name, face, or slogan on it.
Important to note:
Nov. 5th is the General Election.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
You must have with you proof of identification. Acceptable forms include:
South Dakota drivers license or non driver ID card
U.S. government photo ID such as a passport
U.S. Armed Forces ID
Current student photo identification card from a South Dakota high school or South Dakota accredited institution of higher education
Tribal photo ID
