As the City of Flandreau explores options to build or foster new housing, city officials and the local Housing Corporation are asking for input through an online survey.
The survey is for any area resident who may live in or near Flandreau or work here.
More than 90 residents have already responded to the form, which went live last week, according to City Administrator Cohl Turnquist.
The responses so far have been valuable, Turnquist said, but none of the information is surprising. Rather, it confirms what city officials and the local business community have long known there is a shortage of adequate housing in and around Flandreau for all stages of life and income levels.
What remains to be seen, Turnquist said, are answers to key questions: What types of housing do residents want? What can they afford? And would more desirable housing options encourage current commuters to move into the community?
The Housing Corporation and city officials continue to meet with a potential developer about the prospect of an initial new apartment complex on Broad Avenue, on the citys south side.
Anecdotally, were fairly certain that the demand is there, but this survey will help us confirm that, Turnquist said.
The survey can be found online at cityofflandreau.com.
