Pedestrian safety, managing volume among Hwy 34 planned updates

With most of this years highway projects wrapping up before winter, the city of Colman is preparing residents for a major project set to run through the heart of town in 2025.
The Highway 34 project will begin just west of town and extend to the eastern city limits, impacting traffic flow through the area.
Improvements will include grading, new surfacing, curb and gutter work, a 5-foot sidewalk on the south side, an 8-foot shared-use path on the north, a center turn lane, upgraded lighting, and improved storm sewers.
Residents over the past several years have attended meetings to learn more about the estimated $8.9 million project planning began in 2001. The project will coincide with another street and infrastructure upgrade near the golf course, possibly making navigation more challenging as traffic volume increases along with growth in neighboring communities.
A contractor for the highway project, along with additional details, will be announced after the bid is awarded in November.
