Santee Sioux Council incumbents retain seats

Cynthia Allen-Weddell, incumbent Vice President for the Flandreau Santee Sioux, will retain her position with the tribe for another four years. Allen-Weddell won this past weekend in the 2024 General Election by 43 votes over her challenger, Tyler Rambeau. The final count in the race for Vice President was 122 to 79.
Just over 200 of the nearly 300 eligible voting members of the Flandreau Santee Sioux either turned out in person on Saturday to vote or voted absentee in advance.
Two Trustee positions were also decided.
Current Trustee II, Jonathan Schrader, Sr., won his bid for re-election with a 127-73 win over Bruce Schumacher.
Trustee IV was won by Nicholas Flute, in a much closer race. Flute secured 106 votes to previous Council member Kenneth Westons 93 votes.
Allen-Weddell, Schrader, and Flute are scheduled to be sworn in for their new term this Thursday morning.
