Cardinals move record to 4-2 after weeks work on the diamond

The Flandreau Cardinals amateur baseball team improved to 4-2 after winning two of three games this past week.
The Cardinals beat the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks on Thursday and then split a doubleheader with the Madison Broncos on Sunday.
HARTFORD A five-run fifth inning allowed the Cardinals to pull away from the Wood Ducks on Thursday, 10-3.
Hartford/Humboldt led 1-0 after the first inning. The Wood Ducks run in the first inning came from an RBI single.
The Cardinals took the lead in the top of the third. Kellan Culbert walked, Austin Koenig singled and Keith Cutler was hit by a pitch to load the bases. JaColby Anderson was then walked and Koenig scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.
The first run of the fifth inning came on an error. Cutler then hit a two-run double to make it 5-1. Anderson followed that with a two-run home run to make it 7-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth the Wood Ducks scored on a run on a fielders choice to make it 7-2.
Bret Severtson led off the sixth with a single and scored on a single from Josh Edlund to make it 8-2. The Wood Ducks cut the lead back to five in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single. A two-run single from Calvin Hegg made it 10-3 in the top of the ninth and the Cardinals didnt allow any runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Cardinals had nine hits. Anderson was 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Cutler was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Hegg was 1-for-5 with two RBIs. Edlund was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Koenig was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Severtson was 1-for-3.
Anderson started the game for the Cardinals and pitched six innings. He gave up three runs, two earned, on seven hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks. Curt Anderson pitched the next two innings and gave up no runs on one hit with three strikeouts and one walk. Drew Weber pitched the final inning and had two strikeouts.

FLANDREAU A run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings gave the Cardinals a two-run lead and they were able to hold off the Broncos in the seventh in game one to win 3-2.
Anderson put the Cardinals in front in the second inning as he led off the bottom of the inning with a home run. Madison tied the game on an error in the fourth.
The Cardinals then regained the lead in the fifth. Dallas Schneiderman walked to lead off the inning and Severtson came through with a two-out RBI single to send him home and give Flandreau the lead.
Anderson then led off the sixth inning and put one over the fence again to double the Cardinals lead. An RBI double pulled the Broncos within one in the seventh but they were unable to score the tying run and the Cardinals held on.
Anderson was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Koenig was 1-for-2 and Severtson, Hegg and Cutler were each 1-for-3.
Zak Wallner pitched a complete game for Flandreau. He gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Game two
Madison scored three runs in the fifth inning to go up 4-2 and the Broncos held on to get the doubleheader split, 4-3.
Flandreau jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Severtson walked with one out and then scored on a Cutler single. Cutler then came around to score on a Hegg single three batters later.
An RBI single in the fourth pulled the Broncos within one and a two-run double in the fifth gave them the lead. That was followed with an RBI single to give Madison a two-run lead heading into the sixth.
Severtson hit a one-out double in the top of the sixth and then scored on a wild pitch. Flandreau had the tying run at first in both the sixth and the seventh inning but couldnt bring him home.
Hegg was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Cutler was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Severtson was 2-for-2 and Edlund was 1-for-3.
Schneiderman pitched the first five innings for the Cardinals. He gave up four runs, three earned, on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Severtson pitched the final inning and struck out the side.
This week, the Cardinals host DR Mudcats Thursday at 7:30 and DR PBR Sunday at 5 p.m.
