Sheriffs Office returns to full staff All attend Fallen Law Enforcement Memorial Service in Pierre

In a move to return county law enforcement to full staff, Moody County Commissioners this past week approved the hiring of Deputy Samuel Ackerman.
Ackerman steps into the role left vacant by the untimely passing of Chief Deputy Ken Prorok, who lost his life in early February as he tried to help apprehend a suspect in a high speed chase out of Madison.
Proroks passing has been deeply felt throughout not only the law enforcement community, but the community at-large given his dedication to his job and his role for decades as a husband, father, and as a local youth sports coach.
It has been difficult for the Sheriff and his staff to get to a place they felt comfortable even posting the position, but as the entire county team continues to find ways to honor Proroks work and memory, Sheriff Wellman told Commissioners this past week he believes Ackerman is the right person for the job.
Ackerman comes to Moody County with two years of experience as a Deputy in Day County.
The decision to join the Moody County Sheriffs Department is not just a career move, but a personal one as well. His wife is an oncology nurse in Sioux Falls, and the couple has wanted to be closer to her workplace and to family.
Ackerman is scheduled to officially begin on June 10th.
Commissioners also approved Sheriff Wellmans recommendation for the part-time 911 Coordinator position, current dispatcher, Nicole Mattern.
