Cardinals grab lead late for victory over Brewers

The Flandreau Cardinals snatched the lead late in their season opening 4-3 victory over the Sioux Falls Brewers on Saturday, May 11. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the sixth when the Cardnials Calvin Hegg lined out, scoring one run.
Brewers opened the scoring in the third after a hit scored one run.
Hegg hit into a fielders choice, which helped Cardinals tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.
The Brewers took the lead in the top of the fifth. An RBI double scored two runs to give Brewers the upper hand, 3-1.
Cardinals jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Zak Wallner singled, and Hegg lined out, each scoring one run.
Wallner earned the win for Cardinals. The reliever surrendered four hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Luke Gassman stepped on the mound first for Cardinals. The starting pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking two. Bret Severtson and JaColby Anderson each appeared in relief for the Cardinals.
Hegg, Jacob Patterson, and Wallner each drove in one run for Cardinals. Wallner went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Cardinals in hits. Beau Severtson stole two bases. Cardinals turned one double play in the game.
The Cardinals will host Humbolt/Hartford Gamecocks on Sunday at 5 pm in the Flandreau City Park and then host Colman on May 23.
