More than Colman and Flandreau seeing growth

We mentioned a couple of weeks ago some of the bigger projects planned in 2024 for the larger Moody County communities of Colman and Flandreau. The region is seeing a growing number of new and returning residents and businesses, especially in the Colman area and along an increasingly busy Hwy 34 corridor.
There, new homes are going up in entirely new neighborhoods. New banks, new law offices and new stores are going up. Much of it is spurring new improvements to longtime small businesses and community resources.
A new addition will begin on the school later this year.
The growth spurring these changes however isnt solely happening within city limits.
Surrounding areas, including the community of Egan, are seeing new and younger families moving into their districts. Additionally rural families that long ago consolidated properties and perhaps leveled old neighboring homes, are now rezoning farmsteads to rebuild new residences the new homes going to now-grown children who are returning to raise families of their own.
Seven new bus stops were added in rural Egan this school year, Hawks school officials noted at a school board meeting last fall.
The town is growing and people are giving input on what they want to see, said Egan Council Chair Cody Chamblin.
We just did a major update on the softball field. We have been overflow for Flandreau and Colman in the past and (the field) just wasnt up to par. Now we can host more games with just a few more improvements.
He added that he would like for the community to keep working on its parks and improve them so the community has somewhere for kids to go and be outside. There have been talks about an urban fishing area, adding campsites and updating the gazebo area, along with a little pull off of Hwy 34 rest area, said Chamblin.
Chamblin and others would also like to see Bridge Days return, possibly incorporated into the softball tournament that the community hosts each summer.
Egan, as a result of the growth and younger demographic moving in, may also have its first city election in ten years.
Like all cities, we will keep working on roads and other improvements in town. The city has a lot of learning with newer people on the board and all willing to see the city grow.
Well see what we can find happening in Ward and Trent soon.
