The year 2024 will be an interesting one for residential and commercial development throughout the county. New homes and other structures continue to be built, new businesses are scheduled to move in, longtime and recently established businesses are making changes and upgrades, and some fairly major infrastructure projects are scheduled to get underway.
In recent weeks, weve also learned that a large anonymous pledge has come into the Moody County Historical Society and Museum that could double the existing space available for displays and operations. Discussions are also underway for what might be done to improve the grounds and exterior buildings around the Museum, space owned both by the Museum and the City of Flandreau.
Bill Ellingson, a Museum board member, said that a steering committee has been formed to consider how best to steward the gift and maximize the opportunities that are open to the Museum.
The pledge, if matched with other donations, could mean some incredible changes.
MCHS is excited about the prospects that this pledge has raised for enhancement of the Historical Societys goals and mission in recording and sharing our countys history. More information will be shared as developments occur, said Ellingson, on behalf of the committee.
The Moody County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 1 p.m. January 14 beginning at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 505 S Wind St., Flandreau.
