The west entrance to Flandreau looks a bit different than it did a week ago and has for decades as local Moody County contractor Claflin Excavating expands its footprint in town.
The company has been operating in recent years both out of the Claflins personal acreage west of the city and out of a commercial property along the west edge of town.
But as Ernie Claflin and his wife, Allison, grow their team and take on bigger jobs, their need for space grows.
This past Monday, work crews partnered with the Flandreau Fire Department to clear what had been the Dennis Hahn Estate across from the companys current in-town location. The home that had stood there for generations went up in flames late Monday night.
The Claflins say that the property will allow them to have all of their larger equipment in one place. They also plan to put an office building on the property sometime in the near future.
