Colman-Egans Emily Williams finished her Oral Interp season at the SDHSAA Oral Interp Festival with a Superior rating for her performance of Explaining my depression to mother. Instead of a Suicide Note.
Her piece brought to light the difficulty that people have with trying to tell someone they love that they have thought, or attempted to commit suicide, and how no matter what, they still feel unsure, and unsafe. That all the well wishes, you just must try, that those comments do not work, they make it worse.
Her coach is Sonya Herbert.
The Flandreau High School Oral Interp team capped off a great season of competition at the SDHSAA Oral Interp Festival held December 1-2 in Harrisburg. The team earned 5 superior ratings, which also earned them a State Team Excellence Award.
A Team Excellence Award is a plaque given to schools demonstrating high levels of performance at the State Festival.
The Readers Theatre team earned a superior for their performance of Lunch Lady and Cyborg Substitute, a point shy of receiving a superior with distinction; team members included Karissa Nolan, Lyla Thompson, Abe Streitz, Ben Kulm, Abby Lewis and Isabel Kulm.
Lyla Thompson also received a Superior in Humor with Empowered and Karissa Nolan received a Superior in Storytelling with Creepy Carrots.
Ben Kulm received a Superior in Non-Original Oratory with Untitled, and a Superior with Distinction in Poetry with It Rained Warm Bread. A Superior with Distinction indicates that Ben received perfect scores from all three judges.
The team is coached by Kristi Fischer. Other performances by team members at the competition include Karissa Nolan and Lyla Thompson in Duets with Jack Thornton: The Boy Who Breather Fire and Isabel Kulm in Serious Reading with Nice Boy.
