Quinn Orlick had just wrapped up an eight page paper on her senior project when we called.
ďIím writing about hunger in South Dakota and in America in general. I didnít think it was that big of a problem but I found out that one in six Americans is food insecure. Even in Flandreau. I didnít realize there were so many that needed help.Ē
Orlick, is behind all of the fliers you may have seen around town, announcing a 5k run/walk scheduled for this weekend starting at the Breadbasket, the food pantry in downtown Flandreau.
ďI appreciate what the Breadbasket does and I thought if I could help them, Iíd like to do it. Especially because Iím not sure how many people here know about it. There are a lot of races that raise money to help these sort of things,Ē said Orlick.
While many of the details are taken care of and it sounds like sheíll have incredible support from her teachers and classmates, Orlick is hoping many others from the community come out.
She is still taking care of some final details and is looking for water donations.
Registration is morning of in front of the Breadbasket. The run/walk is scheduled for Saturday, April 19th at 8 a.m. Orlick asks you bring with you two non-perishable food items but more, of course, are always welcome.
Orlick plans to enter the Air Force after high school.
