For the second time in three years, the Colman-Egan cross country team will be represented by two runners at the State Meet after a successful Region meet last Wednesday in Howard.
Senior Callie Verver and freshman Jessica Wittrock will each return to the meet thanks to their top 20 finishes at Regions.
Wittrock, who competed in the State meet a year ago as just an eighth grader, was Colman-Egan’s top finisher with a 12th place finish in 16 minutes and 56 seconds.
Verver, who missed qualifying for the State meet last year as a junior by just six seconds, will return to the meet this year after finishing in 14th position last Wednesday in 16 minutes and 56 seconds.
Katie Hannasch finished in 36th for the CE Hawks, with teammates Madison Voelker finishing in 38th and Haleigh Nicol finishing in 39th to round out the Colman-Egan runners.
As for the guy’s team, they will be without a runner for the second straight year after junior Jared Schwebach finished just one spot short of qualifying for the first time in his career.
Schwebach finished the race in 19 minutes and 37 seconds, good enough for a 21st place finish, but just shy of cracking the top 20 and qualifying for State.
The State meet will begin this Saturday, the 26th, at Robbinsdale Park in Rapid City. The meet was originally scheduled to be ran at the Elks Club Golf Course but due to extensive damage from the recent winter storm, the course was unusable.
