Posted: Thursday, Sep 5th, 2013

Phyllis Taylor, age 90, died September 1, 2013, in Pine Island, MN.

Phyllis L. (Loiseau) Taylor was born March 10, 1923, to Paul and Lillian (Afdahl) Loiseau. She attended the Loiseau country school and graduated from Colman High School. Phyllis attended Merritt Business School and the Sioux Falls Sheet Metal School. Moving to Oakland, CA as a young woman, she worked in the shipyards for Bethlehem Steel Company during WWII.

Phyllis married Robert Taylor in 1946. The couple later divorced. After living in California, Robert and Phyllis moved to New Orleans, LA, Galveston, TX, Honolulu, HI, Long Island, NY and New London, CT.

Returning to South Dakota, Phyllis and the children moved to Sioux Falls in 1958, where she became the secretary for the McKennan Presentation School of Nursing. Phyllis then worked as the secretary for Robinson Lumber Co., retiring after 21 years. In 2010, she moved to West Concord, MN, to be closer to her daughter and caregiver. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, Moose Auxiliary, and SEGAM.

Phyllis loved to travel, sew, crochet, bowl, play golf, tend to her flower garden and caring for her backyard birds. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and she looked forward to baking Christmas treats.

Blessed with a radiant personality, Phyllis had a strong and courageous spirit. Surviving two cancers, she bravely forged ahead with her philosophy that "laughter is the best medicine."

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Gary Taylor (Debbie Ann), Worthing, SD; daughters, Darrel Ryan (Frank), Highlands Ranch, CO, Denise Predmore, West Concord, MN; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Darlene Lee (Robert), Flandreau, SD, and Beverly Vallery of Danville, California.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday September 7, 2013, at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at noon, Friday, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Friday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue.
