Summertime Festival Set for July 4th celebration

Independence Day is right around the corner and the Moody County Historical Society is getting ready to start the holiday off with a bang. Several activities have been planned for the 4th of July Festival and the majority of the events will take place at the Moody County Historical Complex located on 2nd Avenue – rain or shine.

The events kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a Worship Service by Rev. Rob Salmonson at the Riverbend Meeting House and will be followed by an opening welcome ceremony at the Flandreau City Band Shell at 11 a.m.

Also at 11 a.m., they will hold the presentation of the Flag out by the Museum.

At 11:15 the band shell will have live entertainment as well as a Tae Kwon Do exhibition put on by Clair Tufty at the Band Shell.

At Noon, there will be recognition of Historical Society Founders, Board Members and Volunteers. There are several people who the Museum believes needs proper recognition from all the work that they have done.

The City Band will conclude the festivities at 1:00 with a concert at the Band Shell

Sponsoring booths at Summerfest include the Athena Club, P.E.O., Redeemer Episcopal Church, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Esther Circle Second Presbyterian Church, Annie Garcia, the Flandreau Park Board, Girl Scouts, Victoria’s Mexican Restaurant, Gruneich pulled pork sandwiches, Boys and Girls Club and Turtle Island Leaning Circle.

Festival visitors will be treated to an array of booths, which include pulled pork sandwhiches, hot dogs, popcorn, Indian Tacos, Lefse, Pies, Ice Cream, Egg roll, games and other activities.
