Tony Francis, age 67, passed Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, OK.
Victor was born May 9, 1945 in Eufaula, OK, to John Francis and Minnie (Polk) Francis. He attended school at Haskell Institute High School in Lawrence, KS, graduating in 1963. He earned a Post High School Vocational Diploma from Haskell Institute in 1965. He then worked for six years at the Broadmoor Hotel and Resort in Colorado Spring, Colorado.
Tony served his country in the United States Army from 1969 until 1971 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He then furthered his education at Okmulgee Tech, earning honors in Culinary Arts in 1973. He was married to Linda Bassett on September 24, 1976 at Norman, OK. He was employed in culinary at the Quail Creek Golf and Country Club, the Petroleum Club, Mercy Health Center and Carter Seminary Indian School. He was employed at the Flandreau Indian School from 1987 to 1995 in the Food Service Department. Tony retired from working for the federal government 36 years in April 2012 due to health reasons. He fought his battle with multiple myeloma and renal failure.
One of his biggest enjoyments was playing golf, especially with his friends that included Larry Crantz of Flandreau, SD.
He is survived by his wife: Linda of Red Rock, OK; one son: Dustin Francis, Red Rock; one daughter: Tony Lynn Francis of Tulsa, OK; his step-daughter: Angela Barnett of Ponca City, OK; numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; four sisters; and a nephew, Dewey Francis.
His funeral service was held May 10, 2013 in Red Rock. Interment in the Otoe-Missouria Cemetery.
