The Colman-Egan Track and Field squad got their first opportunity to showcase their talents last Tuesday as they took part in the Dan Lennon Meet at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.

Neither the boys nor the girls traveled a full team down to the DakotaDome but that did not stop them from having decent success for it being their first time on a track since last May. As a matter of fact, they only had one week of practice under their belt and they hadn’t been outside all year.

On the boy’s side, three runners took part in the 400-meter finals. Eighth grader, Walker Olivier took home the Hawks best time, finishing in 81st with a time 1:08.27. Tait McKnight finished a few spots back from him in 86th (1:14.61) and senior Dennis Park finished on his heels in 87th (1:14.77).

C-E’s 4x200-meter team of Alan Moore, Riley Voelker, Joe Bennett and Park, took home 41st position with a time of 1:52.49. Moore also participated in the triple jump, taking home 48th with a jump of 9.39m.

Ellis Howard and Kyle Broghammer both threw the shot put for Colman-Egan. Howard finished 50th out of 81 throwers with a throw of 33 feet, while Broghammer finished in 57th at a distance of 31.02 feet.

The boy’s 1600-meter medley team of, Moore, Voelker, Park and Olivier, finished in 39th position with a time of 4:40.69.

On the girl’s side, Kara Hannasch took home 46th in 400-meter, while the Hawks 4x400 team of Jessica Wittrock, Kyria Westover, Hannasch, and Sami Lebert finished in 18th with a time of 5:17.41.

The girl’s 4x200-meter team of Wittrock, Burgin Groos, Hannasch and Lebert finished in 31st position with a time of 2:13.04. In the team’s final track event, the 1600-meter medley team of Hailey Harms, Burgin Groos, Westover and Wittrock finished in 29th place with a time of 5:16.29.

In the field events, Westover finished 27th in the long jump with a distance of 4.00 meters. Paityn Groos jumped 3.73 meters, good enough for 37th place.

Westover also competed in the triple jump for the Hawks, jumping 8.11 meters to take home 33rd position.

Three girls participated in the shot put for Colman-Egan. Laramie Olivier took home top billing for the Hawks with a throw of 27.09 feet, while Alyssa Standifer finished in 67th (20.10ft) and Jessica Triebwasser finished tied for 68th (20.06ft.).

The Hawks next action was scheduled for last night in Flandreau, pending weather conditions. Their April 4th meet in Estelline has already been rescheduled for April 13th.
