Gordon Brodersen, age 83 of Elkton, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at his home in Elkton, SD.
Gordon was born January 11, 1930 in Flandreau, SD to Jens and Johanna Brodersen. He attended Country School in Flandreau and Verdi, and then finished his schooling in Elkton. Gordon lived and worked on the family dairy farm from 1942 to present day. He married Joyce Edlin on October 7, 1966 in Pipestone, MN. Gordon served as Treasurer for Alton Township and also served on the Elkton Cemetery Board. Gordon was a former member of the Elkton Peace United Church of Christ, where he served as the Treasurer of the church board, and was currently a member of Brookings United Church of Christ. In 1997 Gordon retired from farming. After retirement he worked for SDSU, and then the Brookings Park and Recreation Department until 2011. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Gordon is survived by his wife: Joyce Brodersen; seven children: Don (Sherry) Bauman, Elkton, Deb (Bruce) Burckhardt, Brookings, Jerry (Leslie) Bauman, Hardwick, MN, Janet (Bryan) Brockberg, Pipestone, MN, JoAnn (Jeff) Lee, Brookings, Jean (Steve) Chappell, Aurora, SD, Jeanette (Jon) Dodson, Hudson, OH; 10 grandchildren: Adam, Brandon, Ashley, Mitch, Hayden, Justin, Chris, Jasper, Andy and Gavin; five great-grandchildren: Braeden, Bergan, Ethan, Owen and Phoenix; one sister: Evelyn Luddeke, Colorado Springs, CO, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Davis Lee.
Funeral Services was February 19, 2013 at Brookings United Church of Christ.
