Aileen Nelson Rice, 92, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Riverview Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Flandreau.
Alice was born July 13, 1920 to John K. and Anna (Johnson) Nelson. She graduated from Stillwater High School in 1940 and enrolled at Winona State University where she graduated with a teaching certificate that qualified her to teach elementary school. She taught school in several Minnesota towns. She married Robert Rice, a lawyer on Feb. 18, 1956 and resided in Pipestone, MN. Aileen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and religion classes and served as elder and deacon of the church. She was a member of the Amer. Assn. of Univ. Women, American Legion Auxiliary and the Garden Club. She delivered Meals on Wheels for five years and enjoyed gardening and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, Flandreau; her children: John Rice, Brookings and Mary D. (Alan Gaynor) Rice, Boston; her sister, Fern Secrest, Hudson, WI; her brother, Clifford (Marge) Nelson, Stillwater.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Ronald, Merwin, George and LeRoy Nelson, Viola Nelson, Kay Kraft and Faith Erfourth.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone, MN with Rev. Cory Germain officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Flandreau.
