Phyllis R. Christenson, 89, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Edgewood Vista in Flandreau.
She was born April 29, 1923 in Clare Township near Flandreau, SD to John F. and Margaret (McMahon) Powers. She received her education in Chamberlin Country School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1941. She graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls and worked for the ASC office in Flandreau. Phyllis married Eugene Christenson on February 21, 1944 in Flandreau. They farmed northwest of Flandreau from 1944 until 1986 when they moved to town. Phyllis was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, Catholic Quilting Ladies and Clare Extension Club. She enjoyed her family, flowers, quilting, arts and crafts and baking brownies and pineapple cookies.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Eugene, four children, Shannon (Janet), Amiret, MN, Alan (Ronda), Owatonna, MN, Jane (Gary) Christiansen, Winona, MN, Brian (Laurie), Flandreau, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and four sisters-in-law, Mary Powers, Marilyn Powers, Elaine Powers and Colette Powers.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Cheryl, great-granddaughter Brooklyn, her parents, four brothers, John “Pete”, Boyd, Francis “Sanny”, Mark and two sisters, Camillus and Margery.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7 p.m. scripture service. www.skrochfc.com
