The Flandreau Flier wrestling team took to the mat twice over the last week. Starting with a triangular in Beresford on Thursday, followed by the team participating in the Kingsbury County Invitational in Arlington on Saturday.
12 of the 13 Flier wrestlers that took part in the Beresford Triangular on Thursday picked up a win, including six wrestlers winning both of their matches. As a team, the Fliers defeated Marion/Freeman 72–6 but fell to Beresford 48-33.
Tate Lacey, Jace Christiansen, Jake Scofield, Brock Belkham, Kyle Scofield and Dakota Petersen all went 2-0 for the Fliers, recording nine of their 12 victories via the pin.
Kyle Scofield spent less than two minutes on the mat, pinning his first opponent in 37 seconds and his second opponent in 1:03. Lacey saw the same type of dominance, pinning his first opponent in 21 seconds and his second in 1:37.
Dylan Rice, Si Flatten and Casey Johnson each picked up their wins via the pin. Dylan Erickson, Logan Barboza and Trevor Heinemann rounded out the wins for Flandreau on Thursday night.
They got back to work on Saturday when they traveled to Arlington for the Kingsbury County Invitational. As a team the Fliers finished second, well behind powerhouse Brookings.
Rice got things started for Flandreau with a fourth place finish, losing to the eventual champion in the semi-finals and then to an unattached, Kayde Bartels of Brookings in the third place match.
Johnson picked up a third place victory for Flandreau. He also lost to the eventual champion in the semi-finals but was able to beat Zach Peltier of O’Gorman in the third place match.
Lacey picked up his fourth championship in as many tries. Lacey pinned Jeric Albrecht of Groton Area for the 138 lb cham pionship.
Christiansen picked up another championship victory when he defeated Nick Hanson of Brookings in the finals of the 145 lb division.
Jake Scofield picked up a third place victory over Hayden Hall of Sioux Valley. Scofield lost to eventual champion Matt Goth of Madison in the Semi-Finals.
Kyle Scofield defeated Wyatt Resmen of Brookings for his 170 lb championship. Scofield pinned Resmen in 3:37 into the match.
Dakota Petersen rounded out the Fliers top performers with a 182 lb championship. Petersen defeated Tyler Currey of Madison via a Major Decision, 12-4 in the championship.
The Fliers traveled to Howard last night for a quadrangular and travel Saturday to wrestle in the Wagner State Dual Tournament.
