Phase one now complete; Clinic opened Saturday

Posted: Monday, Dec 24th, 2012

With construction complete in the new Clinic, crews worked on preparing the storage of all files and installing the cabinets at the new welcome desk for the Clinic portion of the renovation. This Caduceus logo, which is currently imbedded in the entryway on the west wall in the new clinic site, is an original piece from the hospital built in 1937 and has been incorporated into the new building.

It seems like forever since the Avera Medical Group Flandreau broke ground on their new clinic site in May but all the hard work has finally paid off as they made the big move from the existing clinic to their brand new facility on the east side of the old building

Last Thursday, Avera closed the doors of their old clinic for the last time. The clinic was closed from noon Thursday and all day Friday before opening the doors of the new, 10,500-square-foot clinic on Saturday morning.

Crews installed and put the finishing touches on all the new equipment during the beginning of the week before getting to work on moving all the existing equipment and files over their day and a half closure Thursday and Friday.

Although the new clinic has been opened, the $7.6 million renovation project has really just started. Crews will get to work on demolishing the old clinic right after the New Year, to make room for the new outpatient area and Emergency Department in the hospital.

Phase two of the project will include adding an in-house CT scanner, bone-density scanner, private physical therapy treatment rooms and three private outpatient rooms. The Emergency Department will be comprised of two state-of-the-art trauma rooms, a visible and accessible entrance, and improved proximity to staff and hospital services.

The hospital will look to get Phase three under way in the fall of 2013. Phase three involves the renovation of the hospitalís inpatient areas.
