Vera Ann Gebhart, age 92

Vera Ann Gebhart, age 92, passed from this life to be with God on Monday, October 8, 2012 at Riverview Health Services, Flandreau.

Vera was born on February 24, 1920 on the family farm near Jasper in Rock County, Minnesota to Ord C. and Anna (DeBates) Fields. In 1935 she moved with her parents and brothers to a farm near Egan, SD, and graduated from Egan High School in 1938. After graduating from Eastern Normal College in 1940, Vera taught in rural schools and at Jasper Public Schools until 1946. Vera married Felix Gebhart on January 15, 1946 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Colman, SD. Following their marriage they moved to a farm near Egan where they farmed and raised their family for 29 years, and then moved to Flandreau. In 1955 she went back to teaching and taught in rural schools in Moody County, SD and in public schools at Egan, Trent and Flandreau. In all she taught for 36 years. She attended summer classes and completed her Bachelor of Science Degree from General Beadle College in 1965. Her husband preceded her in death on March 23, 2000. What Vera enjoyed most was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed dancing, fishing, playing cards, oil and acrylic painting, and making and sending dozens of greeting cards each month. Vera was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, and American Legion Auxiliary.

Vera is survived by four children, James (Karren), Smithton, MO; Margaret (Dan) Reister, Liberty, KS; Betty (Wayne) Nurmi, Duluth, MN; Donald (and companion, LeAnn Mears), Sioux Falls, SD; by six grandchildren, Jamie Reister, Lori Reedy, Jennifer Kistler, Julie Kistler, Amanda Gebhart, and Danial Gebhart; by four great grandchildren, Kolton Hall, BaiLeigh Reister, Katie DeTienne, and Emmi Reister; and 8 step grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Lloyd Fields, Flandreau. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix, an infant son, her parents, and her brothers Lyle Fields, Glen Fields, Dale Fields and her twin brother, Virgil Fields.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 PM Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 PM prayer service followed by a Catholic Daughter Rosary. www.skrochfc.com
