The Colman-Egan Hawks and Sunrise Ridge Golf Course played host to the Colman-Egan Cross Country Invitational last Wednesday afternoon, with 108 runners spread out between four different competitions.
On the girls’ side, Colman-Egan’s Jessica Wittrock took home the Hawk’s best finish, a tenth place finish in 17 minutes and 41 seconds. Senior Callie Verver finished the race in 18 minutes and 28 seconds for 18th place and Haleigh Nicol finishing in 29th with a time of 20:12.
Overall, Heidi Stotenberg of Elkton/Lake Benton took home the individual championship, finishing in 15 minutes and 46 seconds, 27 seconds ahead of second place finisher Savannah Risseeuw of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton.
MV-P took home the team title. Along with Risseeuw’s second place finish, teammates Taylor Westendorf finished in sixth and Savannah Schmidt finished in seventh.
As for the boy’s side, Colman-Egan’s Jared Schwebach finished just outside medal contention with an 18th place finish in a time of 20:57.
Elkton/Lake Benton came away with another individual title as teammates Justin Sudtelge and Quinn Fargen battled it out in the homestretch with Sudtelge finishing two seconds in front of Fargen to earn the victory.
Despite having the two top finishers, The Elks finished third in the team results with Dell Rapids St. Mary claiming the top spot. The Cardinals placed three runners in the top eight with Mitch Roemen taking third, Jared Scholten taking fourth and Ethan Schmidt finishing in eighth. McCrossan Boys Ranch finished second as a team.
The Hawks took to the course for the DVC Meet this afternoon (Wednesday) in White in their final preparation for the Region meet next Wednesday in Howard.
